Guns Up! provides the School Safety Officer (Guardian) training in compliance with HB3.
This class is for employees of a school district or an open-enrollment charter school. Employees who plan on attending the School Safety class must have a Texas License To Carry (LTC) permit prior to this course. The required training is 16-20 hours to become SSO (Guardian) certified.
It is recommended the SSO (Guardian) training be conducted at one of your school’s campuses, which helps saves on travel time and costs for your school district. Maximum class size is 6.
Topics covered in the SSO (Guardian) course include:
•The protection of students is priority #1.
•Interaction of Guardians with first responders.
•Tactics for denying an intruder entry into a classroom or school facility.
•Methods for increasing a license holder’s accuracy with a handgun while under duress.
•How to defend against an intruder using items commonly available in a classroom.
•Learning what common items teachers should have in their classrooms to deny entry or to defend themselves & their students.
•Learning how to “think and act” under stress.
•Guidelines for carrying in a school.
